Interim EAD for El Salvador TPS Renewal Applicants

Approximately 6,000 El Salvadoran applicants awaiting the adjudication of their Temporary Protected Status (TPS) renewal, saw their Employment Authorization Documents (EADs) expire on September 9, 2015.  USCIS has announced that it will automatically issue interim EADs to these El Salvador TPS beneficiaries, thereby extending the period of employment authorization by a further 180 days.
The issuance of the interim Employment Authorization Documents is automatic, and there is nothing that applicants need do.  USCIS began processing the EAD cards on October 5, 2015, and they should be received very soon.
USCIS anticipates the backlog being cleared by the end of this year, with all cases being adjudicated.  Eligible beneficiaries should receive their final EADs by this time.  Final EADs will be valid until September 9, 2016.
This action only applies to current El Salvador TPS beneficiaries who have re-registered for TPS and requested an EAD and their request has been pending for 90 days or more.  If you have questions, including whether you are included in the group that will receive an interim EAD, call the USCIS National Customer Service Center at 1-800-375-5283 (TDD for the deaf or hard of hearing: 1-800-767-1833).
